Startup Disk Creator


Affected packages: usb-creator-common, usb-creator-gtk, usb-creator-kde

Mandatory Testcases

Live environment (CD Self-Source)

Case ID: udc-001

You will need a clean USB key with at least 1Gb capacity

  1. Boot from a LiveCD
  2. Insert the clean USB key in your computer
  3. Open System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator (GNOME) or Open System->Startup Disk Creator (KDE)

  4. The CD itself should show up in the list of images. Select it.
  5. Select from the disks list the inserted USB key
  6. Click the Format button to format the disk

  7. Select "Discard on shutdown, unless you save them elsewhere"
  8. Click on Make Startup Disk

  9. When the process finishes, reboot your system with the USB key inserted

Full Installation (ISO Source)

Case ID: udc-002

You will need a clean USB key with at least 1Gb capacity

  1. Boot from a LiveCD
  2. Insert the clean USB key in your computer
  3. Open System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator (GNOME) or Open System->Startup Disk Creator (KDE)

  4. Select one of the testing Live CD (or DVD) ISO images
  5. Select from the disks list the inserted USB key
  6. Click the Format button to format the disk

  7. Select "Discard on shutdown, unless you save them elsewhere"
  8. Click on Make Startup Disk

  9. When the process finishes, reboot your system from the USB key inserted
  10. Follow the instructions to test a full desktop installation

Case ID: udc-003

You will need a clean USB key with at least 1Gb capacity

  1. Boot from an installation of the version you are testing
  2. Run update-manager to fully update you system (reboot if required)
  3. Insert the clean USB key in your computer
  4. Open System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator (GNOME) or Open System->Startup Disk Creator (KDE)

  5. Select one of the testing Live CD (or DVD) ISO images
  6. Select from the disks list the inserted USB key
  7. Click the Format button to format the disk

  8. Move the "stored in reserved extra space" slider to its maximum value.
  9. Click on Make Startup Disk

  10. When the process finishes, reboot your system from the USB key inserted
  11. Install some packages in the live environment. Download some files to the desktop
  12. Reboot from the key, and make sure the packages are still installed, and that the files are still on the desktop

You will need one bootable USB key and one clean USB key, each with at least 1Gb capacity

  1. Boot from Bootable USB key of the version you are testing, built with usb-creator
  2. Insert the clean USB key in your computer
  3. Open System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator (GNOME) or Open System->Startup Disk Creator (KDE)

  4. The Installer CD (emulated) itself should show up in the list.
  5. Select the clean USB key from the disks list
  6. Click the Format button to format the disk

  7. Select "Discard on shutdown, unless you save them elsewhere"
  8. Click on Make Startup Disk

  9. When the process finishes, reboot your system from the USB key inserted

Case ID: udc-006

You will need one bootable USB key and one clean USB key, each with at least 1Gb capacity

  1. Boot from bootable USB key of the version you are testing (built with usb-creator)
  2. Insert the clean USB key in your computer
  3. Open ubiquity Install Ubuntu X.XX from the desktop

  4. Go through the installation process, selecting the clean USB key as the destination for the installation
  5. When the process finishes, reboot your system from the USB key inserted

You will need two USB key with at least 1Gb capacity each, one to install ubuntu and one for testing Persistence in dls-003 (Last Step)

  1. Insert the clean USB key in your computer
  2. Open System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator (GNOME) or Open System->Startup Disk Creator (KDE)

  3. Select one of the testing Live CD (or DVD) ISO images
  4. Select from the disks list the inserted USB key
  5. Click the Format button to format the disk

  6. Select "Discard on shutdown, unless you save them elsewhere"
  7. Click on Make Startup Disk

  8. When the process finishes, reboot your system with the USB key inserted
  9. Follow the instructions to test a Live System
