- Boot the alternate image from a CD or USB Key
Select a language for the menu and press Enter
Select Install Ubuntu and press Enter
Select a location for the install and press Enter
Select the origin of the keyboard and press Enter
The default for you location and language should already be selected. Select the layout you wish to use on the keyboard and press Enter

Confirm your password and press Enter. If you entered a weak password, confirm that you want to keep it or select no and enter a stronger one.

- Verify that the pre-selected time zone is correct or select your time zone
Select Manual and press Enter
Select pri/log "drive size" FREE SPACE and press Enter
Select Create a new partition and press Enter
Change the size to 1 GB and press Enter
Select Primary and press Enter
Select Beginning and press Enter
Select Use as: line and press Enter
Select swap area and press Enter
Select Done setting up the partition and press Enter
Select pri/log "drive size" FREE SPACE and press Enter
Select Create a new partition and press Enter
Verify that the specified size is set to the maximum size for this partition and press Enter
Select Logical and press Enter
Verify that Use as is set to ext4, if not change the partition type to ext4
Verify that Mount point is set to /, if not change the partition type to /
Select Done setting up the partition and press Enter
Select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk and press Enter
Select Yes to accept the changes and press Enter
Wait for a while
The install may seem like it has locked at a percentage but is actually working in the background. You can check and see if it is working by switching to tty3 (alt + f4). Select Yes to install grub boot loader to master boot record and press Enter
Select Yes to setting your clock to utc and press Enter
Remove the cd and press Enter
- This will then reboot the machine log in and check the desktop is installed
- Allow the machine to reboot, login and check the system installed correctly.
