Debian-Installer Whole Drive

Case ID: dmi-001

  1. Boot the alternate image from a CD or USB Key
  2. Select a language for the menu and press Enter

  3. Select Install Ubuntu and press Enter

  4. Select a location for the install and press Enter

  5. Select the origin of the keyboard and press Enter /!\ The default for you location and language should already be selected.

  6. Select the layout you wish to use on the keyboard and press Enter /!\ The default for you location and language should already be selected.

  7. Add a hostname for the machine and press Enter

  8. Type in your name and press Enter

  9. Add a username and press Enter

  10. Add a password and press Enter

  11. Confirm your password and press Enter. If you entered a weak password, confirm that you want to keep it or select no and enter a stronger one.

  12. Select No for encrypted home directory and press Enter

  13. Input http proxy info or press Enter

  14. Verify that the pre-selected time zone is correct or select your time zone
  15. Select Manual and press Enter

  16. Select pri/log "drive size" FREE SPACE and press Enter

  17. Select Create a new partition and press Enter

  18. Change the size to 1 GB and press Enter

  19. Select Primary and press Enter

  20. Select Beginning and press Enter

  21. Select Use as: line and press Enter

  22. Select swap area and press Enter

  23. Select Done setting up the partition and press Enter

  24. Select pri/log "drive size" FREE SPACE and press Enter

  25. Select Create a new partition and press Enter

  26. Verify that the specified size is set to the maximum size for this partition and press Enter

  27. Select Logical and press Enter

  28. Verify that Use as is set to ext4, if not change the partition type to ext4

  29. Verify that Mount point is set to /, if not change the partition type to /

  30. Select Done setting up the partition and press Enter

  31. Select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk and press Enter

  32. Select Yes to accept the changes and press Enter

  33. Wait for a while /!\ The install may seem like it has locked at a percentage but is actually working in the background. You can check and see if it is working by switching to tty3 (alt + f4).

  34. Select Yes to install grub boot loader to master boot record and press Enter

  35. Select Yes to setting your clock to utc and press Enter

  36. Remove the cd and press Enter

  37. This will then reboot the machine log in and check the desktop is installed
  38. Allow the machine to reboot, login and check the system installed correctly.
  39. Run the post-installation tests
