Installation Full Network Support


Case ID: nen-001

The goal of this test case is to check that localization support is functional during the installation and that language packs are downloaded and installed correctly from the Internet.

  1. Power up your machine and insert the install media
  2. Select a non English language for the install and press Enter

  3. Select the Install Ubuntu option

  4. Once Ubiquity starts click on Forward

    • The installer should be localized from the first screen onwards
  5. Check the language you selected is correct on the list and click Forward

  6. Select your timezone and click Forward

  7. Check your keyboard layout is correct or alter and click Forward

  8. Select Erase and use the entire disk and click Forward

  9. Input your initial user details and password /!\ Note admin can not be used it is a dedicated Linux User

  10. Tick Log in automatically and click on Forward

  11. Check the details are correct on the final page and click Install

  12. Check that the installer's slideshow slides are localized
  13. Once the installer has finished choose to Restart the system now

  14. Remove the disc and press Enter

  15. Allow the machine to reboot
  16. Verify that your system is localized:
    • For any language, the system has to be fully localized. /!\ Note: the translation coverage of some languages might not be complete

  17. Check that the calendar shows the regional settings correctly

Installation No Network


Case ID: nen-002

The goal of this test case is to check that localization support is functional during the installation, that language packs are installed correctly for those languages in the ISO, and that an informational message is shown prompting users to connect to the Internet to fully install language support for those languages not included.

  1. Power up your machine insert the install media
  2. Select a non English language for the install and press Enter

  3. Select the Install Ubuntu option

  4. Once Ubiquity starts click on Forward

    • The installer should be localized from the first screen
  5. Check the language you selected is correct on the list and click Forward

  6. Select your timezone and click Forward

  7. Check your keyboard layout is correct or alter click Forward

  8. Select Erase and use the entire disk and click Forward

  9. Input your initial user details and password /!\ Note admin can not be used it is a dedicated Linux User

  10. Tick Log in automatically and click on Forward

  11. Check the details are correct on the final page and click Install

  12. Check that the installer's slideshow slides are localized
  13. Once the installer has finished choose to Restart the system now

  14. Remove the disc and press Enter

  15. Allow the machine to reboot and login
  16. Verify that your system is localized:
    • Language packs included in the Live CD: Bengali (bn), German (de), English (en), Spanish (es), French(fr), Portuguese (pt), Xhosa (xh) /!\ Note: this list might vary between milestones

    • If your language is one in the list above:
      • Common translations are installed as part of language packs
      • A pop up shows saying your language support is not complete
    • If your language is not in the list above:
      • Common translations in language packs will not be installed

Installation Broken Internet


Case ID: nen-005

The goal of this test case is to check that localization support is functional during the installation, that language packs are installed correctly for those languages in the ISO. During the lang-packs installation, Internet breaks, and the installer handles it gracefully. After the installation is complete and the new system rebooted an informational message is shown prompting users to connect to the Internet to fully install language support.

  1. Power up your machine insert the install media
  2. Press Space when the keyboard icon appears on the bottom of the scren

  3. Select a non English language for the install and press Enter

  4. Select the Install Ubuntu option

  5. Once Ubiquity starts click on Forward

    • The installer should be localized from the first screen
  6. Check the language you selected is correct on the list and click Forward

  7. Review information and click Forward

  8. Select Erase and use the entire disk and click Forward

  9. Select your disk and click Install Now

  10. Select your timezone and click Forward

  11. Check your keyboard layout is correct or alter click Forward

  12. Input your initial user details and password /!\ Note admin can not be used it is a dedicated Linux User

  13. Tick Log in automatically and click on Forward

  14. Check that the installer's slideshow slides are localized
  15. When the installer is installing the lang packs, disconnect the Internet.
  16. Once the installer has finished choose to Restart the system now

  17. Remove the disc and press Enter

  18. Allow the machine to reboot and login
  19. Verify that your system is localized:
    • Language packs included in the Live CD: Bengali (bn), German (de), English (en), Spanish (es), French(fr), Portuguese (pt), Xhosa (xh) /!\ Note: this list might vary between milestones

    • Once the live session has started, verify that the system is in English
  4. Double click on the Install icon

The goal of this test case is to check that localization support is functional during the installation, that language packs are downloaded and installed correctly from the Internet and that the input methods for either Chinese, Japanese or Korean are working.

  1. Power up your machine and insert the install media.
  2. Select 中文(简体) (Simplified Chinese), 中文(繁體) (Traditional Chinese), 日本語 (Japanese) or 한국어 (Korean) as language and press Enter.

  3. Select the Install Ubuntu option (the second one from the top).

    • In Simplified Chinese "安装 Ubuntu (I)"
    • In Traditional Chinese "安裝 Ubuntu"
    • In Japanese "Ubuntu をインストール"
    • In Korean "우분투 설치"
  4. Once Ubiquity starts click on Forward.

    • In Simplified Chinese "前进"
    • In Traditional Chinese "向前"
    • In Japanese "進む"
    • In Korean "다음"
    • The installer should be localized from the first screen onwards.
  5. Check if the language you selected is correct on the list and click Forward.

    • In Simplified Chinese "前进"

  11. Check if the details are correct on the final page and click Install.

    • In Simplified Chinese "安装"
    • In Traditional Chinese "安裝"
    • In Japanese "インストール"

  12. Check that the installer's slides are localized.
  13. Once the installer has finished choose to Restart the system now.

  14. Remove the disc and press Enter.

  15. Allow the machine to reboot.
  16. Verify that your system is localized.
    • For any language, the system has to be fully localized. /!\ Note: the translation coverage of some languages might not be complete.

  17. Verify that the input method works correctly.
    • Simplified Chinese:
      1. Open Applications > Accessories > gedit Text Editor (TODO: translations of menu entries in Simpl. Chinese)

      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area and select Pinyin as the input method to switch to.

      3. Type renlei in the new gedit document and see if it turns out to be 人类

    • Traditional Chinese:
      1. Open Applications > Accessories > gedit Text Editor (TODO: translations of menu entries in Trad. Chinese)

      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area and select Chewing (酷音) as the input method to switch to.

      3. Type bp6xo4 in the new gedit document (or if you have a keyboard with Bopomofo, type ㄖㄣˊㄌㄟˋ), press Enter, and see if it turns out to be 人類

    • Japanese:
      1. Open アプリケーション > アクセサリ > テキストエディタ

      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area, select 日本語 - Anthy as the input method to switch to.

      3. Type nihon in the new gedit document, press Enter and see if it turns out to be にほん.

      4. Type nihon again, then press space and see if it turns out to be 日本 or 二本. Keep pressing space to cycle between the presented options, if necessary

    • Korean:
      1. Open Applications > Accessories > gedit Text Editor (TODO: translations of menu entries in Korean)

      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area and, select Hangul (한국어) and then han2 (m17n) as the input method to switch to.

      3. Type gks rmf in the new gedit document and see if it turns out to be 한 글

  18. Check that the calendar shows the regional settings correctly.
